HOUSEKEEPING & EVENTS STAFF

The Center for Rural Development, located in Somerset, Kentucky, invites applications for full and/or part-time Housekeeping & Events Staff.  The Center is a national model for economic development in rural areas, serving a forty-five county service area of Southern and Eastern Kentucky and beyond, with a wide array of programs.

Dedicated, dependable and hardworking individuals are needed to assist with janitorial and housekeeping services.  The Housekeeping & Events Staff are scheduled on an as-needed basis; the position(s) are non-exempt with variable hours. The work varies and is often physical.  Responsibilities include maintaining the building and surrounding areas in a clean and orderly fashion.  Additionally, the position(s) will assist with the systematic set up, breakdown and storage of equipment for a variety of events held at the facility, including, but not limited to training seminars, conventions, weddings, etc.  The position(s) retain job specific accountability and report to the Managing Director of Marketing & Events.

Minimum qualifications:  Must be at least 18 years old to apply.  A High School Diploma or equivalent and related experience is preferred.  The position(s) require excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

RECEPTIONIST/BOX OFFICE & ADMINISTRATIVE ASSOCIATE

The Center for Rural Development (The Center), located in Somerset, Kentucky, invites
applicants for the position of Receptionist/Box Office & Administrative Associate. The Center is
a national model for economic development in rural areas, serving a forty-five county service
area of Southern and Eastern Kentucky and beyond, with a wide array of programs.
The Receptionist/Box Office Administrative Associate’s primary responsibility is to meet and
greet The Center’s walk-in clientele in a professional and courteous manner; manage the flow of
guests in the main reception area and assist with their needs. The position of receptionist/Box
Office & Administrative Associate is an information center requiring the position to interact
closely with other departments and organizations housed in The Center, ensuring that relevant
information is communicated promptly and accurately. The position will handle all in-coming
calls on a multi-line phone system assisting callers with questions and transferring them to the
appropriate staff. Contribute to Events Services, as requested by the Managing Director of
Marketing & Events, ensuring information is up to date and well organized, and support the
administrational needs of other departments, under the direction of the Executive Assistant to the
President & CEO. Box office responsibilities include, but are not limited to, managing box office
sales during weekday, evening, and weekend performances, and ensuring all ticketing systems
records are maintained and accurate.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience:
• Associates Degree, business or vocational school, or technical certification and two or
more years related work experience or a combination of education and work experience.

SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Must have experience in answering multi-line telephone systems, with a pleasant,
courteous, and articulate phone voice.
• Must be a self-starter, outgoing with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must be professional both in attire and approach to promoting the atmosphere and quality
of The Center.
• Must be proficient in MS Office applications with the ability to type and operate various
office machines and equipment with speed and accuracy.
• Able to work independently and possess the flexibility to adjust work hours and schedule
to accommodate specific organizational needs.
• Must be able to function efficiently in a stressful work environment with changing
priorities.
• Ability to function professionally in a stressful work environment and meet multiple
project milestones and timelines.
• Be well versed in all Center offerings and programs, adhere to Center policies and
procedures.

YOUTH PROGRAM COORDINATOR/ COMMUNITY LIAISON

The Center for Rural Development (The Center), located in Somerset, Kentucky, invites
applications for the position of Youth Program Coordinator/Community Liaison. The
Center is a national model for economic development in rural areas, serving a forty-five
county service area of Southern and Eastern Kentucky and beyond, with a wide array of
programs.
The primary purpose of the Youth Program Coordinator/Community Liaison is to foster
mutually beneficial relationships with key audiences in The Center’s 45-county service
area (and beyond), including local government officials, civic, community and business
leaders and other community organizations.
Additionally, the position has the primary responsibility for the development,
implementation and supervision of all Center youth programs that serve the purpose of
strengthening entrepreneurship, community service and leadership qualities through The
Center’s service areas. Youth Programs may include Rogers Scholars, Entrepreneurial
Leadership Institute (ELI), Rogers Explorers and other education youth leadership
programs.
The position acts as a representative and ambassador of The Center, participates in
networking opportunities, is actively involved in sales and provides market research that
results in creative services to fill the gap between what is available and what is needed
throughout the communities The Center serves.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to raising awareness of and promoting The
Center and its programs and solicit and share feedback with appropriate Center Staff.
Additionally, the position participates in fundraising activities and is expected to
participate with departmental programs and activities as assigned by the President &
CEO.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree, with three to five years’ experience in a work related field, or a
combination of education and work experience.
Specific Skills Required:
General:
• Service-minded and articulate with ability to comprehend written and oral
communication.
• Must be a self-starter, outgoing and perceptive with strong organizational and
interpersonal skills.
• Extensive travel is required as is occasional evening and weekend work.
Youth Program Coordinator:
• Exercise good judgment, with capacity to efficiently coordinate multiple projects
with highly demanding time frames.
• Project management and coordination, assuring objectives are successfully met
with all youth programs.
• Demonstrate understanding and appreciation for diverse cultures and educational
backgrounds.
• Ability to implement and maintain a tracking system to record youth program
outcomes.
• Summer months require extensive work schedule
Community Liaison:
• Ability to demonstrate capacity to stay abreast of key Center programs and
services.
• Excellent communication skills, including formal presentation skills before both
small and large groups, with the ability to effectively raise awareness of the
organization.
• Ability to work harmoniously and collaboratively in a variety of settings and
diverse communities.
• Demonstrated understanding and appreciation for diverse cultures.
• Able to overcome obstacles and foster harmonious relationships.
• Produce Board Reports, activity and compliance reports, report detailed
community meetings and activities to include but not limited to, regional meetings
and events, and conferences.
