“Songs from the Soul,” a musical narrative of the history of African-American music, is the next School Time Theatre performance.
Local and area students are invited to take a musical journey into African-American history when Lake Cumberland Performing Arts, in partnership with The Center for Rural Development, presents Theatre IV’s electrifying performance of “Songs from the Soul.”
The School Time Theatre performance, recommended for grades 3-12, will be held on Friday, Feb. 26, at 10 a.m. at The Center.
Presented with a mix of humor and reverence, “Songs from the Soul” is a revue of African-American music from slave songs to jazz to blues to rap. The show is not only top-tapping entertainment, but also provides a vital history lesson that teaches pride, responsibility, and respect.
The songs illuminate both the past and present as audience members learn of this music’s transformative impact on American culture. The performance is based on a book by William Dye with music and lyrics by various artists.
