Those who might have missed The Center for Rural Development’s 15th anniversary celebration on Sept. 30 in Somerset will have the opportunity to view the event in the comfort of their homes thanks to special statewide broadcast presentations set to air on Kentucky Educational Television (KET).
Starting Dec. 5, KET will broadcast five airings of a one-hour program filmed at the event before nearly 300 guests on its primary cable broadcast channel and its digital KETKY, The Kentucky Channel.
According to a schedule released by KET, The Kentucky Channel (KET3) will air The Center’s anniversary broadcast on:
- Monday, Dec. 5, at 9:00 p.m. EST
- Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 2:00 p.m. EST
- Friday, Dec. 9, at 9:00 a.m. EST
- Saturday, Dec. 10, at noon EST
KET’s main cable channel (KET1) will also broadcast the event on Friday, Dec. 9, at 2 a.m. EST.

“Through work in our four Focus Areas of leadership, technology, public safety, and arts and culture, The Center is changing people’s lives and improving the quality of life within our 42-county primary service area in Southern and Eastern Kentucky and beyond,” said Lonnie Lawson, president and CEO of The Center.
“Partnering with KET for these broadcasts gives us the ability to reach across Kentucky and tell the citizens we serve how we strive to continue changing people’s lives at the regional, state, and national levels,” Lawson added.
During the anniversary celebration, The Center presented six regional leadership service awards to individuals whose work exemplifies the mission of the nonprofit organization.
Award recipients were Don Alwes of Wilmore, Public Safety Award; Peggy Sherry, Somerset, Arts and Culture Award; 2009 Rogers Scholars graduates Blake Adams and Victoria Rose, Monticello, Community Service/Leadership Award; Brent Graden, Prestonsburg, Technology Award; Eastern Kentucky University, Richmond, Strategic Partner Award; and Dr. Lee Todd Jr., Lexington, Public Service Award.
U.S. Congressman Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-05), keynote speaker at the anniversary celebration, was presented The Center’s “Visionary Award” for having the foresight to create The Center and all of its affiliate organizations.
Neil Middleton, news director and vice president of news at WYMT-TV in Hazard, served as the master of ceremonies.
The Center’s anniversary program was also broadcast across all of Eastern Kentucky on WYMT-TV (Channel 57) on Oct. 31 and Nov. 7 as part of its weekly Issues & Answers program.
