“Ananse! … Early in the Day,” a legendary story about a mischievous spider based on West African folklore, opened the 2011-12 Children’s Prime Time Theatre series on Sept. 16 at The Center for Rural Development in Somerset.
The performance by the professional touring company Wood and Strings brought the images of West Africa’s diverse culture to stage in a magical tale about Ananse the spider, trickster of Ashanti folklore, told through the art of puppetry.
The show—the first of five performances planned this season for Children’s Prime Time Theatre series— was presented by Lake Cumberland Performing Arts in partnership with The Center.
The next Children’s Prime Time Theatre show will be the holiday performance of “The Gift of the Magi,” on Monday, Nov. 28, at 7 p.m. at The Center.
