Whether you want to learn how to edit photographs in Adobe’s powerful Photoshop digital imaging software, discover how to customize your business presentation in Microsoft Office’s PowerPoint, or navigate through an Excel spreadsheet, students can learn those skills and much more in The Center for Rural Development’s Your Center of Learning next series of one-day training classes.

Your Center of Learning, The Center’s workforce- and career-training program, is offering seven new classes in August to help amateurs and professionals alike sharpen their skills in several different areas of expertise without having to spend a lot of money or time to learn a new software program.

Your Center of Learning provides professional instruction from a leading expert in some of today’s top in-demand software programs to help you move ahead with your career or step up to the next level in your job performance,” Robyn Phillips, coordinator of Your Center of Learning training programs, said. “We offer professional training and step-by-step instructions in each of our one-day training courses to help students build key skills in a highly competitive job market.”

To get started on your pathway to success, here are the latest monthly courses to be offered by Your Center of Learning:

  • Photoshop 2007 Basic—Class starts Aug. 2. In this course, students will be introduced to the fundamental features and capabilities of Photoshop CS2. Students will learn the basics of selecting and modifying images, and creating and manipulating layers and other effects. They also will learn how to retouch and resize images, and prepare images for use in print and on the Web.

  • PowerPoint 2007 Basic—Class starts Aug. 4. Students will create new presentations that include text, graphics, WordArt, tables, charts, and diagrams. They also will edit and format slide content, and apply transition effects.

  • Photoshop Advanced —Class starts Aug. 10. Students will learn how to create and use masks and vector paths, and how to create fills and overlays to enhance images. Course activities also cover automation of repetitive tasks. In addition, students will learn how to apply creative special effects to both images and tasks.Click here to register for this class.

  • Better Business Writing—Class starts Aug. 18. Students will learn how to create more engaging presentations, more actionable emails, and more persuasive memos. The need for sharp writing skills in business is greater today than ever before. Learn how to choose the most powerful words and write the most effective documents to give yourself a much-needed edge.

  • Excel 2010 Basic — Class starts Aug. 23. Students will learn how to use the Help system and navigate worksheets and workbooks. Then, they will enter and edit text, values, formulas, and pictures, and they will save workbooks in various formats. Students also will move and copy data, learn about absolute and relative references, and work with ranges, rows, and columns.

  • PowerPoint 2007 Advanced – Class starts Aug. 25. Students will customize PowerPoint by modifying the Quick Access Toolbar and creating macros. They will also apply themes and templates, and they will work with SmartArt graphics and tables. Students will add multimedia content and interactive elements to slides, and they will learn about presentation distribution options, including PDF and HTML. Finally, students will integrate PowerPoint with Word and Excel.

  • Excel 2010 Intermediate – Class starts Aug. 31. Students will learn how to use multiple worksheets and workbooks efficiently, and they will start working with more advanced formatting options including styles, themes, and backgrounds. They also will learn how to create outlines and subtotals, how to create and apply cell names, and how to work with tables. Students will save workbooks as Web pages, insert and edit hyperlinks, and learn to share workbooks by email. This course also covers advanced charting techniques, use of trendlines and sparklines, worksheet auditing and protection, file sharing and merging, and workbook templates.

Classes are held from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in one of the meeting rooms at The Center, located at 2292 South U.S. 27 (at Traffic Light 15) in Somerset, and lead by a professional instructor in that respective field. The cost of each course is $149 per person unless stated otherwise.
