The Center for Rural Development is once again partnering with Conley Bottom Resort Marina to offer a “Houseboat Holiday” vacation on Lake Cumberland as the grand prize in a regional fundraising campaign to support The Center’s three summer youth leadership programs.
Tickets go on sale this week for a chance to win a houseboat vacation—valued at up to $3,500 including a $200 fuel allowance—on one of the largest manmade lakes in the nation and leading houseboating vacation destination.
Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit The Center’s Rogers Scholars, Rogers Explorers, and Entrepreneurial Leadership Institute (ELI) youth leadership programs. Each summer, around 200 middle- and high-school students from across Southern and Eastern Kentucky participate in the programs.
“We challenge students to build their leadership skills and reach their full potential as the region’s next generation of business and entrepreneurial leaders,” Lonnie Lawson, president and CEO of The Center, said. “By buying a chance in this fundraiser, you can be a part of The Center’s efforts to help these young people fulfill their dreams and plan for a successful future.”
Tickets are $5 each and may be purchased through June 28, at which time the winning ticket will be drawn at The Center’s main campus in Somerset during the first week of Rogers Scholars. The winner does not need to be present to win, and will be notified by phone.
“We applaud Conley Bottom Resort Marina for once again supporting The Center and the work we do through our summer youth programs,” Lauren Hayes, youth programs coordinator for The Center, said. “We instill in program participants a heart for community service and encourage them to return to the region for their careers.”
This is the third consecutive year Conley Bottom Resort Marina, located near Monticello in Wayne County on Lake Cumberland, has partnered with The Center to help support region’s young people. Dates and availability of the vacation package are subject to approval of the marina owners.
The value of the vacation prize will be subject to seasonal rates, and is considered taxable income to the winner, which will be reported to the U.S. Government and the winner on Form 1099. Exemption Number EXE0001356 has been assigned to The Center for Rural Development for this and other fundraising efforts.
All three of The Center’s summer youth leadership programs are provided free of charge to participants. These programs are supported solely through financial contributions, fund-raising events, and program supporters.
