Lake Cumberland Performing Arts, in partnership with The Center for Rural Development, presents "Peter Rabbit," a musical play based on the main character in Beatrix Potter’s children's books, at a new rescheduled time on March 31 at The Center.

One of the best-loved children’s stories of all time is getting a musical makeover, and this time Beatrix Potter’s most famous long-eared character is a rambunctious teen and ready to rock.

In a new twist to an old story, Lake Cumberland Performing Arts, in partnership with The Center for Rural Development, presents Children’s Prime Time Theatre performance of “Peter Rabbit” at a new rescheduled time on Thursday, March 31, at The Center in Somerset.

The musical play, set to begin at 7 p.m., will be the final performance of the season in the 2010-11 Children’s Prime Time Theatre series.

Based on the popular children’s character in the best-selling books written by Beatrix Potter, ArtReach, A Division Of The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati, Oho, a professional acting company, brings “Peter Rabbit” to life on stage at The Center.

In this version of the classic children’s story, Peter is all grown-up.

A mischievous teenager, Peter still has trouble staying out of McGregor’s Garden. The Rabbit family must continue to contend with the wayward adventures of Young Peter, whose goal is to get out of the humdrum life in a rabbit’s hole and play his guitar at “The Farm.”

“This play, inspired by one of the all-time favorite children’s storybook characters, will bring a smile to children of all ages,” Dianna Winstead, associate director of arts, culture, and events at The Center, said. “The story of Peter Rabbit is a classic in children’s literature, and you will not want to miss this new adventure in the final show of this season’s Children’s Prime Time Theatre series.”

Tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for children 12 and younger.

Prior to the start of Children’s Prime Time Theatre’s performance of “Peter Rabbit,” families can enjoy music and a child-friendly catered dinner served by Sonny’s Bar-B-Q from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in The Center’s front lobby.

The pre-show event is sponsored by Clear Channel Lake Cumberland and Sonny’s Bar-B-Q.

The Kentucky Arts Council, the state art agency, supports Lake Cumberland Performing Arts with state tax dollars and federal funding from the National Endowment for the Arts. These performances are funded in part by a grant from South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and Kentucky Arts Council.
