Lake Cumberland Performing Arts in partnership with The Center presents the musical play, "Cinderella."
Lake Cumberland Performing Arts, in partnership with The Center for Rural Development, will present the timeless, classic story of “Cinderella” at the next performance of Children’s Prime Time Theatre on Oct. 22 at The Center in Somerset.
Through the magic of live musical theatre, all of the traditional characters in the “Cinderella” story and a newfound friend, Mortimer Mouse, will come to life on stage in this original musical adaptation by American Family Theatre set to open at 7 p.m. in The Center’s theatre.
“The story of Cinderella is an American classic, and this performance is bursting with excitement, fantasy, and song,” Dianna Winstead, director of arts and culture for The Center, said. “People of all ages are sure to delight in this family musical favorite presented by one of the nation’s premier producers of musicals for families and young audiences.”
In the American Family Theatre’s performance of the Cinderella story adapted from the popular storybook character, Cinderella and her good friend—Mortimer Mouse—sing and dance their way from the kitchen of her stepmother’s house to the brilliance of Prince Charming’s ball.
“The Children’s Prime Time Theatre series was created to provide cultural opportunities for families to be able to attend live theatrical performances at affordable prices,” Winstead said. “The classic story of Cinderella is one of the ways we are bringing the performing arts to families and children in and around the region.”
Prior to the performance, a pre-show event will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in The Center’s front lobby and will include free entertainment and an optional dinner buffet provided by Sonny’s Bar-B-Q. The meal will include hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, an apple, iced tea and lemonade and will cost $7 for adults and $3.50 for children 12 and younger.
Tickets to “Cinderella” are $7 each for adults and children over 12 and $4 each for children 12 and younger.

Upcoming performances in the Children’s Prime Time Theatre series include: “’Twas the Night Before Christmas,” Nov. 29; “Ellis Island,” March 4; “Out of the Mist a Dragon,” March 12; and “Peter Rabbit,” April 7. All of these performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. at The Center, located at 2292 South U.S. 27 (at Traffic Light 15) in Somerset.
The Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency, supports Lake Cumberland Performing Arts with state tax dollars and federal funding from the National Endowment for the Arts. These performances are funded in part by a grant from South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and Kentucky Arts Council.
